74th January, 2019… we refuse to learn.

A friend of mine posted on his status that January feels like it has 74 days and that the 31st day of January normally felt like 74th January.

Another posted that January felt like 2 months rolled up in one month.

Yet another said that January was as slow as a Dangote's truck carrying 600 bags of cement trying to move up a steep hill and that to her the new year normally starts on the 1st of February. Insisting that there’s nothing fun or good about January.

These got me wondering, why was everybody complaining about the sluggishness of January - how it crawled instead of running. I asked myself, “Is it that January has 74 days or does 48 hours make a day in January in place of the ‘dogmatically’ accepted 24hours?” or was it a case of longer days & shorter nights or vice versa? What exactly happens in January that steals the smiles from most peoples face?

Then it hit me, nothing unusual happens in January o, it has just 31days – 24 hours each, it is not sluggish neither is it crawling to its destination. Only one thing happens every other January, and it will still happen this coming January, and that is: we refuse to learn wisdom from history. History taught us nothing, ‘nafin at all’.

We refuse to learn from the past that Januarys took more money from our pockets than it put in, we refused to learn that Christmas will always come again and the just concluded one wouldn’t be the last yet we celebrated it as though there would be no January. But lie, January cometh.

We refuse to learn that school fees would be paid by January,

 House rent; paid by January,

NEPA bill; January,

Shop rent; January,

Tfare back to town from villa; January. Abi you wan remain for villa.😂

We refuse to learn that Tecno, Infinix, Samsung, IPhone etc. will still roll out another type of phone by January, so we used all this year’s savings to buy the latest phone model by December, forgetting our responsibilities by January.

We refuse to learn that Gucci, fendi, Louis Vuitton, MK, etc. will create another design by January so we decided to buy that one trending in December.

We refused to learn that God is a principled father and that when he says, “if you sow richly, you’ll reap richly”, so we forgot to invest in December, we refuse to pay our tithes hoping that He’ll understand (but you, you didn’t understand o and suppress your lust for material things o), as if you expect him to send rain in harmattan!

So January will be long for you because you’ll have no money in your pocket! Shikina! Simple! Point blank!

Now what do we do so that next January would be like other months?

Simple, lets learn from history and reduce spending during Christmas. You’ll not die if you don’t buy a new dress, you won’t go blind if you don’t get a new phone, you won’t become ‘ngwuro’ (cripple) if you don’t buy new shoes, you won’t grow roots if you don’t travel, you won’t lack if you pay your December tithes, sisters you won’t loose your head if you don’t buy that expensive hair.

You can’t get a different result if you keep doing a thing the same way.

Finally, brethren, rejoice in the Lord.
