Dear Chioma
Dear Chioma,
I understand that ASUU is on strike again and you are at home with mummy now. That's pretty cool, considering the fact that you do not even know when it will be called off.
So, how do you intend maximizing the opportunity? For it is an opportunity in disguise. Let me show you how if you don't mind.
👉🏾 GET SERIOUS WITH GOD AND SPEND MORE TIME WITH HIM: You might have discovered you normally don't have time enough for God during school semesters, now is an opportunity to know Him more and better.
👉🏾 SHARPEN YOUR ACADEMIC AXE: there is a book given to you that contains your course outline. Take up that book Chioma, go through each topic and study in depth. This is the time to search for answers, join peer reviewed research groups and visit libraries. Attend course related conferences.
👉🏾 VOLUNTEER: you see ehn Chioma, there are so many areas where your services are needed in this life. Volunteering helps you network, acquire new skills, gain experience and exposure and also build relevance.
1. Volunteer in your church( lead a children bible club, organize programs, wash pastor's car, sweep church, help an elderly person or nursing mother etc).
2. Volunteer with NGOs around, when you see the advertisement of a program or conference, make enquiries on how you could be a volunteer. When you see a need for volunteering , make yourself available. Google VSO and check them out. Also follow the United nations volunteering program.
👉🏾 ATTEND CONFERENCES AND TRAININGS: these could be in your area of career or on personal development or on skill acquisition. Why do you need this? They add up to your experiences and give you an advantage over your colleagues that do not have them. They expose you to mentorship opportunities with the leaders that attend those trainings and conferences. Also register as a student member of your career body in the country e.g Nigerian Environmental Society (NES) etc.
👉🏾 ACQUIRE SKILLS OR ADVANCE THE ONES YOU HAVE: this applies to your talents as well. Attach yourself to someone who is excelling in that skill area you desire and get some training. When you acquire a skill ,you need to develop it! Keep practicing, do free trials for people and then when you are good enough start charging for it. This would prepare you for life after school. Some skills I suggest you should learn include: Coding, graphics designing, writing, public speaking, tailoring, etc.
Pay money if it takes that to learn.
👉🏾 READ BOOKS: my dear Chioma, you need to read many non-academic books this period. For every challenge you have there is a book with its answers. Have you ever thought about finishing the Bible in a year? Try it out its really fulfilling.
Don't spend the whole of your day on social media and watching movies. I know you like movies shaa.
Till I hear from you again Chioma, take care of yourself.
